Pet Care Services in Waterdown | Loving Paws

You’re commuting into Hamilton or Burlington five days a week, and your dog spends too many hours alone in the house. Or you’ve finally booked that trip you’ve been putting off, and the thought of a kennel, your anxious rescue in a cage surrounded by barking dogs, is enough to make you cancel the whole thing. You don’t have to choose between your life and your pet’s well-being.

That’s exactly the problem Loving Paws was built to solve.

Better Value Than Boarding

Loving Paws & House Sitting gives you personalized, in-home professional care at competitive rates. More comfort for your pet. Less stress for your wallet. That’s a win on both counts.

Built on Trust Since 2005

Loving Paws & House Sitting nearly two decades ago, and over 5,000 happy clients, a 4.9/5 star rating, and 75+ reviews speak louder. We’re the team your neighbours already trust.

Book Any Time, Any Day

Our 24/7 online booking means you can schedule a visit, arrange overnight care, or set up a regular dog walking routine whenever you finally have a moment. Easy, fast, always available.

In-Home Pet Care That Fits Waterdown Life

Waterdown has grown fast, but it still feels like a village. Newer subdivisions, young families, dogs who know every path around Joe Sams Leisure Park, and a community where people actually know their neighbours. It’s the kind of place where trust matters, and handing your house key to a stranger from an app just isn’t how things work here.

Loving Paws has been providing in-home pet care across Hamilton since 2005. Founded by Amy Shannon Leclair, our team of 15+ caregivers is background checked, insured, bonded, and certified through Pet Sitters International (PSI). Nearly 20 years in, we’ve served over 5,000 clients and hold a 4.9/5 rating from 75+ real reviews. The reputation is built on showing up, doing the job properly, and treating every home like it matters.

In-home care means your pet doesn’t go anywhere. Same house, same routine, same familiar smells just a consistent caregiver who comes to them. No boarding stress. No kennel cough. No dog who barely eats for three days while you’re gone. For pets managing separation anxiety or any health condition, staying home isn’t just more comfortable, it’s genuinely better for them.

Services We Offer in Waterdown

Dog Walking

A proper daily walk isn’t just exercise, it’s mental stimulation, routine, and the reason your dog isn’t destroying the furniture by 3 pm. Our dog walkers follow your pet’s pace and preferred routes, keep visits consistent, and send you a photo update and notes after every outing. Perfect for Waterdown dogs who are used to real outdoor time and don’t do well cooped up all day.

In-Home Dog Sitting & Puppy Sitting

We come to your home for daytime drop-ins or full overnight stays, whatever your schedule requires. For puppies still building their confidence and routine, in-home sitting provides the stability they need without the chaos of a new environment. For dogs prone to separation anxiety, familiar surroundings make an enormous difference. Medication administration and health monitoring are included as standard.

Cat Sitting

Most cats aren’t interested in going anywhere, and frankly, they’re right. Our in-home cat sitters handle feeding, water, litter maintenance, and real interaction during every visit, not just a quick bowl refill. Your cat stays home, on their terms, with a caregiver they can warm up to at their own pace.

Small Pet Sitting

Rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, we sit for them all. Small pets have very specific habitat, diet, and handling needs, and those details matter. Our caregivers are trained to manage those requirements properly, so your chinchilla or cockatiel gets attentive, species-appropriate care throughout your absence.

Medical Care

Post-surgery recovery, daily medication, ongoing health monitoring, and in-home medical care fill a real gap for pet owners who can’t take extended time off work. We follow your vet’s instructions to the letter, keep track of what’s been administered, and contact you immediately if anything looks off. This is one of the services that makes the biggest practical difference for families managing a pet’s health condition.

Nail Trims

Done at home, in a space your pet trusts. No waiting room, no unfamiliar handling table, no extra stress added to an already uncomfortable experience. Our caregivers use calm, low-pressure techniques that work especially well for anxious pets, senior dogs, or any animal who turns nail day into a full event. Quick, straightforward, and one less trip out.

Virtual Veterinary Consultations

Not every concern warrants a clinic visit, but some things can’t sit on a waiting list for two weeks either. Our virtual vet service connects you directly with a licensed veterinarian for remote advice. Fast, practical guidance without the hassle of loading a stressed pet into the car for what might be a five-minute conversation.

Puppy Training

Positive reinforcement only, no punishment, no outdated correction methods. We focus on the foundations that actually matter: sit, stay, recall, leash manners, and calm house behaviour. Starting early and staying consistent is what separates a dog that’s a pleasure to live with from one that runs the household. We help you build that foundation from the beginning.

House Sitting

When you’re away, a lived-in house is a secure house. Our house sitting service keeps your pet on their regular schedule while also maintaining a real presence, mail collected, plants watered, lights varied, and someone responsible on the property. For Waterdown families taking longer trips, it’s the kind of coverage that means you can actually enjoy being away.

Why Waterdown Pet Owners Choose Loving Paws

When someone in a neighbourhood like Waterdown recommends a service, it travels. Word of mouth still works here, and what people tell each other about Loving Paws comes down to one thing: we’re accountable in ways most pet care options simply aren’t.

Every caregiver is background checked before they ever walk into a client’s home. They’re bonded and insured, and Loving Paws carries full business coverage as well. If anything happens during a visit, an accident, damage, or a health concern, you’re genuinely protected. That’s not something app-based platforms can promise, where the accountability often ends at the booking confirmation.

Our Ready-Key program handles home access properly. Your key is logged into our secure system, assigned only to your designated caregiver, and stored responsibly between bookings. No informal handoffs, no ambiguity about who has it. When the service ends, it’s returned on request or kept on file for your next booking.

After every visit, you get a photo update and an e-diary note on what your dog ate, how the walk went, and how your cat was doing. It sounds like a small thing, but for a pet owner stuck in back-to-back meetings or sitting in an airport, that check-in changes the whole tone of the day.

Booking is available online, 24 hours a day. No phone tag, no waiting for office hours. And compared to boarding or a pet hotel with no hidden fees for medication, multiple pets, or extended stays, the pricing is straightforward and almost always more practical.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the real difference between in-home sitting and boarding?

Boarding removes your pet from everything familiar and puts them in an environment with other animals, unfamiliar handling, and a completely different routine. In-home sitting means they stay in your house — same bed, same schedule, same smells with a consistent caregiver. For most pets, especially anxious ones or those with medical needs, the difference in how they cope is significant.

My dog has separation anxiety. Will in-home care actually make a difference?

For most dogs with separation anxiety, yes, substantially. The biggest triggers are environmental change and unpredictable routine. In-home care removes both. We also do a meet-and-greet before the first booking, so your dog has time to get comfortable with their caregiver before you’re gone.

Can you administer medication or handle post-surgery care?

Yes, this is part of our standard service for dog and cat sitting. We follow your veterinarian’s instructions carefully, keep a clear log of what’s been given, and reach out immediately if we notice anything that warrants attention. You don’t need to make separate arrangements for a pet with complex needs.

How does the Ready-Key program work?

You provide a key, and we log it into our secure client management system. It’s assigned only to your designated caregiver and stored responsibly between bookings. It’s never duplicated or passed along informally. When you no longer need the service, the key is returned on request, or we can hold it on file for convenience if you’ll be booking again.

Is Loving Paws more expensive than a kennel?

Usually not, and often less when you factor everything in. There are no add-on charges for medication administration, multiple pets, or overnight stays. Your pet also comes home without the recovery period that boarding often causes, no stress behaviour, no appetite issues, and no adjustment week. That matters practically and financially.

Are your sitters insured and bonded?

Every caregiver is fully bonded and insured, and Loving Paws carries complete business-level coverage. This matters because if something goes wrong during a visit, you have real protection, not just a platform’s vague terms of service. It’s one of the clearest differences between a professional pet care company and an individual sitter from an app.

How do I book a service for the first time?

Through our website, booking is available online at any time. For new clients, we recommend scheduling a meet-and-greet first, especially if your pet takes time to warm up to new people. Once that’s done, future bookings are fast and straightforward.

Do you cover the area near Smokey Hollow and the newer subdivisions in Waterdown?

Yes, we service Waterdown, including the residential areas near the ravine trails and the newer developments on the north and east sides of the community. If you want to confirm your specific address is in our coverage area, just reach out, and we’ll confirm right away.

Reasons to join our team and earn a good income

WE WORK HARD TO SUPPORT OUR DOG WALKERS, AND PET & HOUSE SITTERS

  • Work with us as one of our sub-contractors by driving to the homes of our clients to provide dog walking, pet sitting, medical care, and house sitting services.

  • The amount of work depends on the number of requests we receive from clients for our services, and that number keeps on growing as more and more pet parents and home owners learn of our services.

  • We diligently maintain our website and routinely work to ensure strong Web Search Engine Optimization so that our website appears top-most on web pages for search results.

  • Requests for our services come from clients who come to our website and submit quote or reservation requests. We then assign the work directly to you.

  • All work is paid, and we pay one of the pet care industry’s best rates for walking dogs, pet sitting, and house sitting.

  • No purchase of any “kit” is required to work for us. We do not charge any fee as a condition of working with us. We are not a pyramid-type organization.

  • There is much flexibility in terms of where, when, and how work is done, as long as the needs of our clients and their pets are met, and as long as what is paid for is done (we guarantee the duration of each visit, and that the visit will take place). Most clients are easy going about the services they need. Some clients are more specific; e.g. if their pet needs medication.

  • Aside from a computer with internet access, cell phone, and a vehicle that you need to work with us, we provide everything else you need to do the work, and for free: our admin software tool, access to our database, personalized email address, your insurance coverage and bonding, all the necessary printed materials, a professional binder for all documents, 4 handbooks covering medical care, procedures, and policies topics, and brochures/posters for networking.

  • We generally sponsor one major pet-related event annually; e.g. Pet Expo, and expect you will attend with us.

  • We put you in touch with new clients after they accept our quotes or existing clients after they reserve our services. Essentially, we pre-screen each assignment request to ensure it is valid before asking you to decide whether or not you want to take it on.

  • You can reduce your taxable income on your annual income tax filing with the Canada Revenue Agency by claiming eligible expenses for working as a sub-contractor, for using space where you live for office / admin work, and for using your vehicle for work.
  • We provide service every day of the year, especially on weekends and holidays when people tend to go away, and we pay 1.5X the normal rate for work done on a holiday.

  • You will interact with kind, animal-loving people who will appreciate and welcome the services you will provide, and who will trust you with their homes, belongings and their living pet(s).

  • You will have a territory and only be expected to drive to the homes of clients who live within typically 15-km from your home. We pay extra if you need to drive further (unless you agree to a larger territory when you join our team).

  • Walking dogs leads to getting exercise and the fresh are is as good for you as it is for the dogs; count on your health improving and not being stuck in a windowless office cubicle.

  • You will be pleasantly greeted at front doors by many pets that will be happy to see you and to also give you lots of unconditional love, affection and attention in return for just enough simple food and water, and all the play time and TLC you can afford.

  • You will experience improvements to your stress levels … numerous studies show that spending time with animals is relaxing and beneficial to human health.

  • You will learn about pet health and what it takes to become one of the region’s most respected, professional pet sitters.

  • You will have the opportunity to grow with us … we are increasingly called upon for our dog walking, pet sitting, medical care, and house sitting services. We provided our services to thousands of clients in the greater Ottawa region since 2005 and in Mississauga since 2012. Our goal is to reach more and more communities as we move forward.

  • We work on a very personalized level and are always available. We answer questions and solve problems quickly, and we invite suggestions for change and improvement regularly.

  • We provide 4 detailed Orientation, Emergency, Procedures, and Policies Handbooks. Job shadowing and we continues with on-the-job coaching and accessibility.

  • We provide continuing education opportunities relating to all areas of the pet care industry.
