Pet Care Services in East Hamilton | Loving Paws

Your dog doesn’t care that you have a twelve-hour shift tomorrow. She cares that the squirrels in Gage Park are taunting her through the window, and nobody’s taking her out. If you’re in East Hamilton and your work schedule doesn’t line up with your pet’s needs, and let’s be honest, it rarely does, you need someone reliable walking through that door when you can’t be there.

Your Pet Stays Home

No kennels, no carriers, no unfamiliar animals. Your pet keeps their routine, their space, and their favourite spots — with a caregiver who comes to them.

One Caregiver Who Knows Your Pet

Same person every visit, someone who learns your pet’s quirks, triggers, and medication needs — not a random match from an app refreshing every week.

Every Visit Is Documented

Photo updates and e-diary notes after each session give you a clear record of how your pet is doing — useful for you and easy to share with your vet.

In-Home Pet Care That Fits East Hamilton Life

East Hamilton is a working neighbourhood. Shift workers, tradespeople, families juggling school drop-offs and overtime, retirees who’ve lived on the same block for forty years. It’s practical, no-nonsense, and loyal, and pet owners here deserve care that matches. Not a flashy boarding resort with add-on fees. Not a stranger from some app who may or may not show up. Real, dependable, in-home pet care from someone who actually knows your animal.

That’s what Loving Paws has been providing since 2005. Over twenty years of professional pet care across Hamilton, Mississauga, and Ottawa. Our 15+ caregivers are all certified through Pet Sitters International, background-checked, fully insured, and bonded. We’ve looked after more than 5,000 pets and hold a 4.9 out of 5 rating from 75+ reviews. We earned that reputation one visit at a time, and we plan to keep it.

In-home care means your pet never leaves the house. No kennels, no cages, no sharing space with anxious strangers. They stay in their own environment, eat on their own schedule, and sleep in their own spot. For the dogs and cats of East Hamilton, many of them rescues, many of them older, that familiarity is everything.

Services We Offer in East Hamilton

Dog Walking

A tired dog is a happy dog, and a daily walk is the simplest way to get there. Our dog walkers know the East Hamilton streets, the shaded paths through Gage Park, the quieter residential stretches south of Main, and the routes that keep reactive dogs away from the busier corners. We match the walk to your dog’s breed, fitness level, and temperament. Every day, rain or January slush.

In-Home Dog Sitting & Puppy Sitting

Whether you’re away for a weekend or working nights all week, our in-home dog sitters stay at your place and keep your dog’s routine intact. Feeding, walks, play, and bedtime all happen on schedule. Puppies get the round-the-clock attention they need, including overnight bathroom runs and crate training support. For dogs with separation anxiety, our sitters use calm, predictable techniques that prevent the spiral before it starts.

Cat Sitting

Cats don’t want an adventure; they want their windowsill, their food bowl, and their humans to stop disrupting things. Our local cat sitters visit your home to handle feeding, fresh water, litter box cleaning, and genuine interactive play. For indoor cats who spend their days watching birds from a second-floor apartment, that enrichment visit breaks up the monotony and keeps them mentally sharp.

Small Pet Sitting

Rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, and small pets have specific needs that aren’t obvious to someone who’s never kept them. Our caregivers understand proper feeding, safe handling, habitat cleaning, and health monitoring for a range of small and exotic animals. No guesswork, no shortcuts.

Medical Pet Care

If your pet is recovering from surgery, managing diabetes, or on a multi-medication schedule, we handle it with precision. Our caregivers administer oral and topical medications, monitor recovery progress, and document everything. Detailed logs go to you and your vet, so nothing falls through the cracks. Post-op care at home, where your pet is calm and comfortable, leads to better recovery outcomes than a stressful boarding environment.

Nail Trims

Some dogs act like nail trims are a life-threatening event. We get it. Our in-home nail trim service removes the car ride, the waiting room, and the unfamiliar groomer from the equation. We use low-stress techniques, let your pet set the pace, and get it done without the theatrics. Available for both dogs and cats.

Virtual Veterinary Consultations

Not every concern needs a clinic visit. If your dog’s been limping slightly, or your cat’s eating habits have shifted, a virtual vet consultation can give you professional guidance without the stress of loading everyone into the car. Connect with a licensed veterinarian by video, get a clear answer, and decide on next steps from home.

Puppy Training

Puppyhood is short, and the habits formed now stick for years. Our training is done in your home, one-on-one, using positive reinforcement to reward what you want, redirect what you don’t. We cover house training, leash manners, basic obedience, and early socialization. Training in the actual environment where your puppy lives means the behaviour transfers to real life, not just a classroom.

House Sitting

Leaving town and don’t want your house sitting empty? Our house sitters move in. They care for your pets around the clock, collect your mail, water your plants, and maintain a lived-in presence that keeps your home secure. For East Hamilton homeowners, especially those on quieter residential streets near Battlefield Park or along the blocks south of the Kenilworth Access, having someone trusted in the house while you’re gone is genuine peace of mind.

Why East Hamilton Pet Owners Choose Loving Paws

Trust is the whole thing. You’re handing someone the keys to your home and the responsibility for a living creature you love. That’s not a casual decision, and we’ve never treated it like one.

Every caregiver on our team is background-checked, insured, bonded, and certified through Pet Sitters International. These aren’t university students picking up weekend gigs through a platform. They’re professionals who’ve been trained in breed-specific behaviour, medical care, anxiety management, and safe handling, and they stick around because this is their career, not a side hustle.

You’ll get photo updates and e-diary notes after every single visit. Not a generic thumbs-up emoji, but actual information about what happened, how your pet ate, how their energy was, and whether anything seemed off. It’s the kind of detail that matters, especially when your pet is on medication or recovering from a procedure.

Our Ready-Key program means your caregiver has secure, documented access to your home. No keys taped behind the mailbox, no codes texted around. It’s tracked, professional, and accountable.

Booking is available 24/7 online, no waiting for business hours, no phone tag. And our rates are competitive with boarding facilities and pet hotels in Hamilton, with the enormous advantage that your pet stays home and gets one-on-one attention instead of a kennel and a rotation of strangers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between in-home pet sitting and boarding?

Boarding means your pet goes to a facility and shares space with unfamiliar animals. In-home sitting means one of our caregivers comes to your house. Your pet keeps their routine, sleeps in their own bed, and avoids the stress of a strange environment. It’s better for anxious pets, older animals, and cats who don’t handle change well.

Do you have experience with rescue animals and pets with anxiety?

This is something our team handles regularly. Separation anxiety, fear-based reactivity, and the particular sensitivities that rescue dogs often carry, we approach all of it with patience and consistency. No flooding, no forced exposure. We let your pet set the pace and build trust gradually.

Can your sitters administer medication?

Yes. Our caregivers handle oral medications, topical treatments, and post-operative recovery care. We follow your vet’s instructions exactly, log every dose, and note any changes in your pet’s condition. You’ll always know what happened and when.

How does the Ready-Key program work?

It’s our secure home access system. Instead of hiding a key somewhere obvious, we manage key access through a documented, trackable process. Only your assigned caregiver has access, and every key is accounted for. It eliminates the security risks that come with spare keys and lockboxes.

Is your pricing similar to that of boarding kennels and pet hotels?

We’re priced competitively with most boarding options in Hamilton. The difference is what your pet gets: individual care, their own home, their own routine, no shared kennels, no exposure to unfamiliar animals. Most clients tell us the value is significantly better once they see the experience their pet actually has.

Are all your caregivers insured and bonded?

Every one of them. Full insurance, bonding, background checks, and Pet Sitters International certification. We’ve maintained that standard for every caregiver since we opened in 2005.

How do I book a pet sitter?

Visit our website and use the 24/7 online booking system. Select your service, choose your dates, and we’ll assign a caregiver who’s the right fit for your pet. The whole process takes a few minutes.

Do you serve the area around Gage Park and the Ottawa Street corridor?

We cover all of East Hamilton from the streets around Gage Park and the Ottawa Street BIA right through to the residential blocks near Confederation Beach Park and south toward Battlefield House. Wherever you are in the neighbourhood, we’re here.

Reasons to join our team and earn a good income

WE WORK HARD TO SUPPORT OUR DOG WALKERS, AND PET & HOUSE SITTERS

  • Work with us as one of our sub-contractors by driving to the homes of our clients to provide dog walking, pet sitting, medical care, and house sitting services.

  • The amount of work depends on the number of requests we receive from clients for our services, and that number keeps on growing as more and more pet parents and home owners learn of our services.

  • We diligently maintain our website and routinely work to ensure strong Web Search Engine Optimization so that our website appears top-most on web pages for search results.

  • Requests for our services come from clients who come to our website and submit quote or reservation requests. We then assign the work directly to you.

  • All work is paid, and we pay one of the pet care industry’s best rates for walking dogs, pet sitting, and house sitting.

  • No purchase of any “kit” is required to work for us. We do not charge any fee as a condition of working with us. We are not a pyramid-type organization.

  • There is much flexibility in terms of where, when, and how work is done, as long as the needs of our clients and their pets are met, and as long as what is paid for is done (we guarantee the duration of each visit, and that the visit will take place). Most clients are easy going about the services they need. Some clients are more specific; e.g. if their pet needs medication.

  • Aside from a computer with internet access, cell phone, and a vehicle that you need to work with us, we provide everything else you need to do the work, and for free: our admin software tool, access to our database, personalized email address, your insurance coverage and bonding, all the necessary printed materials, a professional binder for all documents, 4 handbooks covering medical care, procedures, and policies topics, and brochures/posters for networking.

  • We generally sponsor one major pet-related event annually; e.g. Pet Expo, and expect you will attend with us.

  • We put you in touch with new clients after they accept our quotes or existing clients after they reserve our services. Essentially, we pre-screen each assignment request to ensure it is valid before asking you to decide whether or not you want to take it on.

  • You can reduce your taxable income on your annual income tax filing with the Canada Revenue Agency by claiming eligible expenses for working as a sub-contractor, for using space where you live for office / admin work, and for using your vehicle for work.
  • We provide service every day of the year, especially on weekends and holidays when people tend to go away, and we pay 1.5X the normal rate for work done on a holiday.

  • You will interact with kind, animal-loving people who will appreciate and welcome the services you will provide, and who will trust you with their homes, belongings and their living pet(s).

  • You will have a territory and only be expected to drive to the homes of clients who live within typically 15-km from your home. We pay extra if you need to drive further (unless you agree to a larger territory when you join our team).

  • Walking dogs leads to getting exercise and the fresh are is as good for you as it is for the dogs; count on your health improving and not being stuck in a windowless office cubicle.

  • You will be pleasantly greeted at front doors by many pets that will be happy to see you and to also give you lots of unconditional love, affection and attention in return for just enough simple food and water, and all the play time and TLC you can afford.

  • You will experience improvements to your stress levels … numerous studies show that spending time with animals is relaxing and beneficial to human health.

  • You will learn about pet health and what it takes to become one of the region’s most respected, professional pet sitters.

  • You will have the opportunity to grow with us … we are increasingly called upon for our dog walking, pet sitting, medical care, and house sitting services. We provided our services to thousands of clients in the greater Ottawa region since 2005 and in Mississauga since 2012. Our goal is to reach more and more communities as we move forward.

  • We work on a very personalized level and are always available. We answer questions and solve problems quickly, and we invite suggestions for change and improvement regularly.

  • We have clear and concise policies and procedures so you will never have to guess about what you should or should not do.

  • We provide 4 detailed Orientation, Emergency, Procedures, and Policies Handbooks. Job shadowing and we continues with on-the-job coaching and accessibility.

  • We provide continuing education opportunities relating to all areas of the pet care industry.

If you love interacting with and giving care to animals …
we and our clients … and their pets … can’t wait to hear from you.
